  7. It shows you that the company has clear performance standards.

  8. It sets clear standards of how long exhibits should last.

  9. It shows you the company is pushed to offer good service.

  10. It generates reliable data on what works and doesn’t work.

  11. It forces that company to examine its entire service delivery system for possible failure points. Basically, it improves quality.

  12. It creates a culture of expertise within that company.

  13. It’s the ethical and right thing to do.

  14. It shows you part of what that company stands for.

  15. It forces the company to focus on the customer.

  16. It forces better problem solving and well thought out exhibits.

  17. It shows you that company is willing to go the extra mile.

  18. It generates feedback from you.

  19. It forces the company to understand why they failed.

Most museums, nature centers, education centers and the like need their exhibits to last a decade. It’s not every few years that you can raise the capital to replace your exhibits. You expect them to last. Wouldn’t you expect the company you hire as your partner in your design/build process to guarantee this? This is why we have a 10-year warranty on our design-build projects. We feel it is the right thing to do.

Of course, you can only trust a guarantee that is actually under the control of the firm that offers it. Make sure you look for a guarantee that is in their hands. For instance, the manufacturing of A/V equipment is not done by us. We have no control of the quality of that manufacturing process.

You also want to make sure a guarantee or warranty is as simple to invoke as possible. If a company makes it too difficult to implement their guarantee it can feel worthless to do so. Can you get a solution to the problem within 48 hours of your call?

Does this guarantee or warranty cost? If it cost substantially more than competitors you may decide against it. The cost of our warranty comes right out of our bottom line. As stated above it forces us to come up with better processes, better exhibit designs, better fabrication methods and better customer service. That is the culture we want to create within our company and you get the benefit of that.
