Description
How do you build pride in your town and enhance a sense of community? You uncover your community’s unique stories and reveal them in compelling ways, like memorials, preserving history, public art, walking tours, cohesive wayfinding to name a few. Streator heightened what lies at the heart of their community by telling the story of the all-volunteer organization that marshaled the resources of the small town to provide free drinks, food, and snacks to thousands of troops on their way to the Pacific during the Second World War. The stunning bronze statues depict a young soldier receiving refreshments by a local young woman. Interpretive panels also inform and engage the visitor in the story of the Free Canteen.
