The Judicial Learning Center is a unique space in the Thomas F. Eagleton United States Courthouse located in St. Louis, MO. It was created to inform visitors about the judicial process in the courts of the United States and to promote public understanding about the rule of law in American society. Taylor Studios designed, built, and installed all of the exhibits for this innovative project..
The exhibit gallery was divided into four major areas. The first area interpreted judicial independence; the second area interpreted the federal court system; the third area interpreted how courts work; and the final area interpreted the Eighth Judicial Circuit within the federal court system. Taylor Studios also created a changeable section for courthouse staff to post current events stories and feedback from the public.
A major challenge with this project came in making complex legal terms accessible to the general public. To accomplish this, the design team utilized interactivity and simple language to create engaging displays for school children and lay people. When Millie Aulbur, director of law-related education for The Missouri Bar, read the test she said, "I think your work is truly remarkable. The nature of my job is all about making complicated constitutional concepts simple to understand so I appreciate your work and what a great job you have done."
