Judicial Learning Center
St. Louis, Missouri

On February 25, 2009, Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was in St. Louis, Missouri for the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Judicial Learning Center in the Thomas F. Eagleton United States Courthouse. The Learning Center, the first of its kind in the country, was created to inform visitors about the judicial process in the courts of the United States and to promote public understanding about the rule of law in American society. Taylor Studios designed, built, and installed all of the exhibits for this innovative project.

The exhibit gallery is divided into four major areas. The first area interprets judicial independence; the second area interprets the federal court system; the third area interprets how courts work; and the final area interprets the Eighth Judicial Circuit within the federal court system. Taylor Studios also created a changeable section for courthouse staff to post current events stories and feedback from the public.

The one room gallery is set up like a courtroom, with a jury box and judge's bench. Elegant, simple graphics create a stunning and respectful space which fit perfectly within the design of the courtroom. Both the jury box and the judge's bench are utilized as unique settings for interactives, placing the visitor in the role of judge and juror. Flip books are placed along the jury box to prompt visitors to answer questions about serving on a jury. Along the judge's bench, push button interactives ask questions about a judge's role, rewarding correct answers with a light-up gavel.

The Center is located on the first floor of the courthouse just past security. It is open 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.
