In honor of the upcoming American Alliance of Museum’s (AAM) Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo in New Orleans, Louisiana let’s take a look at past work Taylor Studios has done in the area.
Louisiana Art & Science Museum – Baton Rouge, LA
Taylor Studios fabricated and installed a set of large-scale planets for the Louisiana Art & Science Museums planetarium building, which opened in 2003. The four planets are part of a larger scale model of the Solar System installed in the Museum’s main atrium, and painstaking research went into the paint job for each of the planets, helping to give visitors an accurate picture of the scale of our Solar System.
National WWII Museum – New Orleans, LA
Taylor Studios researched and fabricated several recreations within the museum including a full scale, walk-in German bunker on the coast of Normandy, and an American training barracks.
One of the more elaborate recreations produced by Taylor Studios includes a CG4A WACO combat glider which appears to have crashed against an old stone wall in a Normandy field. The nose is raised in the open position to reveal an Army jeep that is in its cargo area. A mural depicts the pre-dawn Norman countryside.
Audubon Nature Institute, Cool Zoo – New Orleans, LA
In 2015, Taylor Studios was hired to fabricate, procure, and create numerous themed elements for the Cool Zoo’s new 750-foot lazy river. Through fabricated models and numerous props, a captivating and immersive swamp scene was created along the lazy river. All of the materials were produced and secured to withstand an outside environment exposed daily to sun, rain, wind, and thousands of guests. Additionally, all fabricated models and materials were manufactured for a chlorinated environment.
Audubon Nature Institute, Insectarium Theatrical Exhibits – New Orleans, LA
Taylor Studios themed the theater, pre-show area, and gift shop to transport visitors into the world of insects, by combining realistic trees, rocks, foliage, mud banks, and other scenic elements with colorful murals, oversized leaves and flowers, jaw-dropping animatronics, and gigantic insect models. Many of the animatronics and insect models were sculpted to look like specific animated characters from the film.
Audubon Nature Institute, Life Underground – New Orleans, LA
At the Insectarium, Taylor Studios was hired to fabricate all exhibit components for the jaw-dropping Life Underground exhibit area. The immersive, awe-inspiring, and interactive experiences demonstrate the incredible impact bugs have within our own backyards and in the wider world.
Audubon Nature Institute, Metamorphosis – New Orleans, LA
At the Insectarium, Taylor Studios was hired to fabricate the beautiful and engaging Metamorphosis exhibition, where visitors explore the fascinating themes of insect courtship, mating, and life cycles through awe-inspiring and immersive displays.
