Designing Under the Influence

One of the most challenging parts of our job in design is managing and collaborating with a multitude of personalities, backgrounds, and priorities. Many of our clients and projects are backed with a team of decision makers – naturalists, biologists, historians, purchasing officers, maintenance staff, interpreters, park staff, friends groups, and the list goes on. So, where do we begin?

We begin every project with a face-to-face and ask that you have your team of influencers with you. At this very first visit we listen to each one of your visions and goals for the project and work together collaboratively to set objectives and success factors, keeping you and your visitor in mind. These become a guide for the remainder of the project.

Once we set the objectives and success factors, the design progresses with influence from three groups of people:

  1. You- the client (and your stakeholders)

  2. Your audience – we keep certain demographics in mind such as age ranges and school groups.

  3. Us – the professional designers. That’s why you hired us, we hope.

Though every design consists of some give-and-take on all sides, the influence of all three parties helps us ensure that you will have a well-rounded, successful exhibit that meets the agreed-upon objectives.
